Things are ’bout to get real shifty ’round here for the next couple months and I couldn’t possibly be more excited. I committed to 2018’s NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge, as of this week, and have begun Preptober in earnest. As of now, I have:
- Chosen my genre
- Picked a story idea
- Announced said idea on NaNo’s site
- Written a short synopsis
- Drafted a character sketch for all main personalities
- Have started hardy research
- Began outlining 10 pivotal scenes
Here’s the thing…
I don’t necessarily think of myself as a disciplined writer. Sure, I jot something down every day, but it’s at the whim of my creative drive. Some days the words amount to two paragraphs, other days it’s six pages. This year’s NaNo will be a true test of what I feel I can actually offer the literary community, as far as novel writing goes.
That being said, posts on Pearl Bayou are going to sway in a different direction for awhile and I hope I can still snag some of your all’s attention from time to time. Planning on sharing snippets of the evolving first draft weekly. Patching gaps with other projects I have saved on here. Maybe even sticking with Top 5 Wednesdays, since I enjoy them so much.
Just wanted to touch base and be openly communicative!

What about you? Anybody here that’s participating in NaNoWriMo this year? Leave a comment below if so! I’d love to make some connections throughout the process, for accountability AND friendship.
