Moving into the “new” house included a box marked: “2017 CASTAWAYS” (Complete with a really bad drawing of Wilson and Tom Hanks. Still not sure who did that but I appreciate the humor. To that particular silent hero: Your palm tree looked a lot like a penis and it was adorable.) I carted around and unpacked this big ass box of books, filled to the brim with 2017 purchases, which I had full intentions of reading…but never did. Some of them were $.25 garage sale finds and some were brand spankin’ new bookstore gems / and yes, before you ask, I took cliché pictures for Instagram along with my Starbucks. Like-oh-my-god-I-am-soooooo-basic. Apparently, according to the book Gods, I’m EXTRA BASIC because I didn’t read these books in 2017.
Let me highlight a few of these beauties for you.
And I Darken by Kiersten White
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman
Willful Impropriety: 13 Tales of Society, Scandal, and Romance by Ekaterina Sedia
BONUS: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
-Keep in mind, y’all, I’m LIMITING myself here. There were dozens of books I wanted to read in 2017 but didn’t make the cut. For this week’s Top 5 Wednesday, I narrowed it down to: (1) books I physically bought in 2017 and (2) either a standalone or the first installment of series. There are so many series I need to get caught up on, it’s cray-cray.
Next Wednesday = “Forgettable Books” (Ouuuuuch.)
Oh, and Hagan says hi!
